How Much Does Google Ads Management Cost in San Antonio? (2026)

Google Ads has two costs: the ad spend you pay Google and the management fee you pay an agency. How the fee models work, what should be included, and the red flags to watch for in San Antonio.

How Much Does Google Ads Management Cost in San Antonio? (2026)

Short answer: Google Ads has two separate costs. Ad spend goes to Google, and for most local service categories in San Antonio our guidance is a floor of $800 to $1,200 a month, held for at least 90 days. The management fee goes to whoever runs the account, and it is usually a flat monthly retainer, a percentage of spend, or a mix. Always get both numbers in writing, and always keep ownership of the account.

"How much does PPC cost?" is one of the most common questions we get. The honest answer depends on your category, your goals and who runs the account. This guide covers how the costs break down, what you should get for the fee, and how to spot a bad deal.

The two costs of Google Ads

1. Ad spend

This is what you pay Google when someone clicks your ad. Google charges your card directly. Your cost per click depends on how many advertisers want the same searches. "Emergency plumber" and "personal injury lawyer" are expensive. A niche service in a small part of town can be cheap.

There is a floor below which a campaign cannot learn. For most service categories in San Antonio, we put that floor at $800 to $1,200 a month in spend. Below that you get a handful of clicks a week, which is not enough data to tell what is working. If that budget is a stretch right now, your money will usually go further on your Google Business Profile and local SEO first. We explain the math in is Google Ads worth it for a small business.

2. Management fee

This is what you pay an agency or freelancer to build, run and improve the campaigns. It is separate from spend, and it should be. A clear agency will show you both numbers side by side.

The three fee models

Flat monthly retainer. You pay the same fee each month for an agreed scope. It is predictable and it does not reward the agency for simply spending more of your money. This is how we work.

Percentage of ad spend. The fee is a share of whatever you spend with Google. It scales with big budgets, but it creates an incentive to raise spend rather than improve results. If you go this route, ask for a minimum and maximum fee so it stays sane.

Hybrid. A base fee plus a percentage above a certain spend level. Common for larger accounts.

None of these is wrong. What matters is that you understand which one you are paying, and what work you get for it.

What management should include

A real Google Ads management fee should cover more than "we set it up and check in." Look for:

  • Account and campaign setup: structure, keywords, negative keywords, ad copy and extensions.
  • Conversion tracking: calls, form fills and bookings tracked back to the keyword and ad. Without this, nobody knows what works.
  • Landing page review: the page the ad points to matters as much as the ad. Many "Google Ads problems" are page problems.
  • Campaign types that fit you: search for high-intent queries, Performance Max or Shopping for ecommerce, and a view on whether Local Services Ads make sense for your category.
  • Ongoing optimization: search term reviews, bid and budget changes, new ad tests.
  • Reporting you can read: leads, cost per lead and what is changing next, every month.

If your campaigns are live and not converting, start with why your Google Ads are not converting. It covers the common causes before you spend more.

Ad spend vs management fee: a simple way to think about it

Think of ad spend as fuel and management as the driver. More fuel does not help if the car is pointed at the wrong road. A well-managed account with a modest budget often beats a bigger budget left on autopilot, because the wasted clicks get cut and the money moves to searches that turn into customers.

That is also why the first month of a new account is mostly setup and measurement. Campaigns need clean tracking and a few weeks of data before the real optimization starts. Plan for 90 days before judging results.

Red flags

Walk away, or at least ask hard questions, if you see any of these:

  1. You do not own the ad account. The account should be in your name, with the agency added as a manager. If they leave, your history and data stay with you.
  2. No conversion tracking. If they report clicks and impressions but not leads, they cannot prove value.
  3. Fee and spend are blended. One number that hides how much actually went to Google.
  4. Long lock-ins with no exit. A minimum term is normal. A year with no out is not.
  5. Guaranteed rankings or results. Nobody controls the auction.
  6. No opinion about your landing page. If they never mention the page, they are only managing half the problem.

When Google Ads is the wrong first move

Google Ads is great for capturing demand that already exists. It is weaker when nobody searches for what you sell yet, or when the budget is below the learning floor. In those cases, start with the Map Pack, reviews and a site that converts. Then layer ads on top.

FAQ

How much does Google Ads management cost in San Antonio?

There are two costs: ad spend paid to Google and a management fee paid to the agency. Fees are usually a flat monthly retainer, a percentage of spend or a hybrid. Our retainers are public, starting at $1,500 a month, with paid media part of Full-Service from $6,500 a month.

What is the minimum budget for Google Ads in San Antonio?

For most local service categories, our guidance is $800 to $1,200 a month in ad spend, held for at least 90 days. Less than that rarely gives a campaign enough data to learn.

Is a percentage-of-spend fee a bad deal?

Not always, but it rewards higher spend instead of better results. If you agree to it, set a minimum and maximum fee and insist on lead-based reporting.

Who should own my Google Ads account?

You should. The account should be in your business name, with the agency added as a user. That way you keep all the data and history if you ever switch partners.

How long until Google Ads works?

Expect the first month to focus on setup, tracking and early data. Most accounts need around 90 days of steady spend before you can judge them fairly.
